Big Fish: a 24-hour autonomous store at Barcelona-El Prat airport
Par Techtail · Mis à jour:

Big Fish opened a convenience store with no checkouts and no queues, powered by Techtail technology, in Terminal 2 at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport. Customers get in with their phone number and bank card, take the products they want and leave without going through a checkout; payment happens automatically.
It opened in September 2026: a 65 m² Full Store open 24 hours a day, with around 800 products and roughly 250 purchases a day.

The challenge
An airport is a demanding environment for a shop: peaks of passengers in a hurry, travellers from many countries and the need to buy in seconds. "The airport is one of the best settings to show how this model can transform convenience," explained Clàudia Puig, CEO of Big Fish (source, in Spanish: Interempresas).
The solution
- 01Customers identify themselves with their phone and card to get in.
- 02They take what they want from the shelves, without scanning anything.
- 03AI cameras and weight sensors register every product.
- 04They leave: the charge and the receipt arrive automatically.
Results
In its first months, the store has been running 24 hours a day with no checkout staff and records around 250 purchases a day.
| Indicator | Figure |
|---|---|
| Purchases per day | ~250 |

"Bringing this model to an international airport now shows our solutions' ability to adapt and scale in increasingly demanding environments," said Sergi Moure, CEO of Techtail.
What an operator can learn from this case
- _Around 250 purchases a day in 65 m² show that the format keeps up with the pace of an airport.
- _Autonomous shopping works with passing customers who don't know the store: no app needed.
- _The format fits high-footfall spaces where staff are expensive or hard to cover: airports, stations, petrol stations, hospitals.
- _The operator focuses on product range and restocking; the technology, maintenance and support come from Techtail.
